The Chumash were a North American maritime culture originally based in the Pacific Northwest around 700 AD. Their plank canoe—or tomol—has been called “one of the most sophisticated technological innovations in pre-colonial North America.” Essentially, it propelled the tribe’s economy for thousands of years.
Today, Sailshaker is delighted to be working with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian, assisting this renowned organization in navigating modern communications.
